Travel Toys to keep mommy sane

My goal is to travel as light as possible.  In order to do that, we have to leave all unnecessary items behind including all of my children’s beloved toys.  They don’t really like to do that since, like most children, my kids are natural hoarders.

But since they need something to keep the crazy at bay when we have downtime, we always bring along a small selection of toys that makes the waiting a little bit easier.  What’s that old saying, “Idle hands are the devils workshop.”  After having kids, I can believe that.

Here is a list of three toys that my kids love.  And these toys come with no surprises.  Classic usually works best anyway.  This is not an exhaustive list.  Nor, do you need to buy all or even any of it.  Likely, you already have something that will work just the same in your toy box already.

What I do hope for is to inspire your next trip to be a little less encumbered with the trappings that come with children in tow.

#1 Shopkins

Whether you find Shopkins to be cute or creepy, no one can deny their portability.  My daughter loves these but I find she only really plays with them when we are away on a trip.  I like to store them in a cloth drawstring bag for accessibility.  A pocketful is all you need for a few minutes of fun.

#2 Hot Wheels

I almost always have a Hot Wheels car with me.  One is enough to keep my son entertained for an hour.  Two hot wheel cars will give me enough time to conquer the world.  Just kidding.  But two will keep both of my kids busy for quite some time.  Throw in a pocket full of Shopkins with the Hot Wheels and I have enough time to drink a coffee in peace.  Now that’s living the mommy dream life.

#3 Window sticky things

Idle hands…. It’s not a good thing.  These little gems are great for the car, RV, and hotel rooms.  Your budding artists can create till their hearts are content. Easy to clean and easy to take on your next journey. I bought mine from Rainbow Resource, my favorite curriculum seller.

Each month I will bring you more items that can make travel with family just a little easier.  Happy packing!
